Kids Say the Koolest Things About Health

My health is
in my smile.

It is health that is real wealth
and not pieces of gold and silver.

Mahatma Gandhi

We know this.  We all WANT this.  But do we live it?

Dave Matthews’ fabulous new album, Away From the World, and the song “Gaucho” speaks to this desire we have to change the health, the state of the world.  And the line that grips you is “We gotta do much more than believe if we wanna see the world change”…and then in a whisper that calls to you he says, “Please wake up. Please wake up. Please wake up.” (Somethin’ hey?!)

It begins with us, as human beings, as mentors.  It trickles down to the children in how they see themselves, their body, their minds, their beings.  And in all of this, if we can strike a cord in harmony with true and lasting health that resonates on all levels, then we surly have a chance to see the world change.

The 20 kids and families who responded to our first day of Health-Insights sooooo get it and no doubt, with the help of their families, LIVE it.  WoW.

I was delighted and amazed and so look forward to more.

For those of you just tuning in, this week LifeSchool Inc. is gathering Thoughts on Health from kids, parents, mentors and well, just about everyone, for an article on Health and Wellness.  We’ve teamed up with Fit American Families to explore New and Wondrous Ways to Inspire health heading into the season.  You can check details and comment to enter in the draw to win one of Kimberly Wechsler’s awesome books on active living, @ Win a Book 4 Your Healthy Thoughts.

Just have to share a few gems from today… (more to come in the comprehensive article hitting cyber-press in 2 weeks:)

“At Hallowe’en they give junk food to us.
But we shouldn’t eat junk food.
That’s how we be healthy.” – Age 4

“Like, staying good.” – Age 8

“Smoothies, veggies and protein to be strong
and not to be sick with a cold,
and playing with my friends!” – Age 6

“Feeling good in all aspects of your life.” – Age 16

As you look to your own life, what comes to mind?
What does Healthy mean to YOU?
And how are you living it and
inspiring the young ones in your midst to Live IT?

It’s not too late.  We’d love to hear what you have to say!

Thank you to all those who took the time to connect with their kids and with themselves to answer.  Many, many profound, funny and even some surprising answers were shared today and I so look forward to listing them all in the article to come.  Please share on and let’s see if we can’t learn from the young people who seem to simply KNOW what health IS.  (And let us not forget the parents and mentors out there who work so diligently to instill powerful, positive values in the little ones of the world).  YEA You!  ~ jenni
